Hello my fellow restaurant folks,

You hear every day that we are in a serious recession, which some people will argue is actually a new-fangled depression. I have waited 15 months to give my personal name for this phenomenon. I am calling it the “twilight recession”.

Yes, there is a recession. I can attest to that because I have operated businesses through the five preceding events. I use the term “twilight” because the normal events, that have occurred in the previous recessions, do not appear with any rhyme or reason in this one.

Economists 50 years from now will probably debate what was unique about this period of time. But, for now, I suggest that we use our intelligence, experience, fortitude and optimism to discover not only ways to survive, but possibly even to prosper.
